TV Journalists/Reporters/Presenters careers which are aligned with my interests:
Some people believe that you can be either a reporter/presenter or an actor and that you have to choose. I disagree. Michael Palin & Joanna Lumley are both travel presenters and actors (& they both also happen to do other things -write, paint, etc). Likewise the actress Sigourney Weaver recently narrated/presented a video about one of the Amazon’s key threats -the Belo Monte Dam. I would love to enjoy as much variety as these inspirational individuals.
I love nature, wildlife and conservation so David Attenborough’s career is also fascinating as are the careers of others working in these areas. I adore watching programs about animals and nature -‘Planet Earth’, ‘Hidden Kingdoms’, ‘Blue Planet’, ‘Life’, ‘Frozen Planet’, ‘Animal Odd Couples’ and ‘Africa’ are just a few that kept me spellbound! (I know a lot of those programs just rely on voiceover, rather than having a presenter, but I’m using them more as an example of programs I’m interested in -obviously I’d like to interact with animals, explore nature and the world verses staying in a recording studio)!
I’m also fascinated by programs exploring people, cultures, cities (general travel programs) and I enjoy quirky stories e.g. the program ‘Paul Merton in India’ which explores bizarre, lesser-known stories, rituals, people, places and natural facts, etc.
I’m also really drawn to going into nature & really exploring off the beaten track –e.g. trekking through rainforests & exploring remote cultures such as Bruce Parry did in the TV series ‘Tribe’ & also in ‘Amazon’. (I love tropical environments & rainforests -& Bruce Parry is pretty cool too)! I think what excites me about that kind of show is learning how to survive & spending time in nature, learning about cultures, rather than just the endurance element that some shows focus on. (I don’t feel compelled to try to emulate endurance athletes, climb fatal mountainsor to repeatedly tempt death by put myself in arduous, very perilous, extreme or repetitive endurance situations –I’ve already broken my skull once)!
I’m more excited by content/investigation/learning, variety and creativity than basic physical endurance so very repetitive things which challenge my body, but don’t engage my mind as much (beyond exerting will power), don’t excite me.I prefer challenges that engage and stimulate my mind at the same time but I also just love learning and exploring new places and cultures without the need for any kind of obvious personal (physical) challenge! There are many other presenters & reporters who have careers I that find exciting& who I admire–too many to list here. As well as the above, I’d love to report/present a range of programs -like Louis Theroux for example! (Whilst travelling/adventure, animals/wildlife & nature are my key reporting/presenting interests they arenot my only interests -please see below for more information). I love learning generally and there are a vast number of topics and shows that I am genuinely fascinated by! The program doesn’t need to be about travel, I love travelling and hope to see as much of the world as possible, but travel can be involved with any program topic and, even if there’s no travel involved, that doesn’t mean a project won’t be fascinating.
Topics / Areas of interest:
I love learning and have a strong sense of curiosity so I really enjoy investigating/reporting a wide variety of topics. Below are a few topics that first come to mind... Interests include: TRAVELLING (Adventure and Exploration, different cultures), WILDLIFE / ANIMALS, Current Affairs, Theatre, Film, TV, Acting and the Arts, Nature, Environment / Conservation, Science, Humans: Human Potential, Psychology, Neuroscience, Psychic abilities (including animal communication). The Nature of ‘Reality’ (e.g. the Universe, related topics such as quantum physics, quantum mechanics -presented in more detail than is common but still in a generally understandable format). News, History. General spiritual/'reality' topics (not any one religion or topic particularly more anything that examines our lives from a wider, deeper perspective e.g scientific string theory as much as more alternative approaches like past life regressions, or philosophical, spiritual writings. How everything comes together from numerous fields and perspectives, etc). Alternative medicine/healing, e.g. energy healing. Animal protection ('animal' and not just wildlife -also anti factory farming, poor treatment of working animals, etc). Survival skills. Creativity -acting, art, music.
As well as many other topics -these are just the first that come to mind today so perhaps a list is pointless! General learning! In my opinion, everything can be interesting and often, the more you know about something, the more interesting it becomes...
